Episode 7 [Part 2] :: Conclusion/Prayer

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Conclusion: So, I hope that that has enlightened you to a large extent. There’s much more to be said about all of these things but, you know, we have very little time to make these explanations. But we do have a lot of teachings along these things - these various subjects we’ve talked about - and it’ll be beneficial for you to get our books and tapes. I want to pray for you right now.

Prayer: I pray that God’s Spirit will rest upon you, touch you, change you, heal you - heal your body. I pray that that pain in your body will cease. I pray for you, in the name of Jesus, that the miracle you’re expecting for your job, for your finances, for your family will come to pass - that your expectations will come to pass. I pray for you to be well and sound in the name of Jesus. God bless you.

Episode 7 [Part 2] :: Quick Vote Question on The Significance of Dreams

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome
For the quick vote….the quick vote question of the week, we had several questions for you:
  1. The death of Uzah.
  2. Does God create evil?
  3. Why is God silent today?
  4. The significance of dream.
And you, overwhelmingly, selected ‘The significance of dreams.’ You all want to know about dreams.

Quick Vote Question: “Why is it our dreams come to pass at times and in some occasions, we feel the impact of dreams, depending on the content, in our bodies. Can we have control over our dreams?”

Answer: I’ve written out for you a proper definition of a dream, because I realize that most of the world doesn’t really understand what a dream is. They experience it, but it’s a phenomenon that’s unknown or misunderstood (or misinterpreted) by most people. But, you see, the word of God gives us the accurate information on any of these things, especially when it comes to dealing with things outside the realm of science, you need the word of God! Now, “a dream is an activity of the human spirit which occurs in the sleep modes of the human body senses and mind.” Now, this activity of the human spirit is characterized in two classes:
  1. The spirit’s imagination of the inner mind’s activities of the inward man. Now, I’ll explain further to you because the bible tells us there is an inward man and there is an outward man. So, the first one is the spirit’s imaginations. The inward man has imaginations.
  2. And then, secondly, the actual encounters or experiences of the human spirit.
Now, let me give you the explanation. When you sleep, your spirit...man is a spirit, he has a soul and he lives in the body. There is an inward man and an outward man. The outward man is the body and his senses. Now, the inward man is the human spirit with his soul and the soul is the seat of the mind, the emotions and the will. Now, the human spirit does have his own imaginations just like you have your imaginations of your mind—the human spirit has imaginations. Now, when you go to sleep (when you are in the sleep mode), your senses are somewhat suspended. You don’t know what’s happening around you. You don’t know what’s happening to you, but the human spirit doesn’t sleep. See, the human spirit is awake; the human spirit functions, and at that time the human spirit has imaginations. And, those imaginations can be affected by the kind of things that your spirit has been receiving in the day time, not necessarily on that particular day but over a period of time. Now, those things affect the imaginations of your spirit. And when your spirit has those imaginations, those are dreams; they are the dreams you have, they are the pictures in the mind of your spirit—what we call the inner mind of your spirit, because the mind, remember, the mind is in the soul and the soul is a possession of the spirit, according to the bible. So, you see that you are sleeping and your spirit has imaginations. And so you wake up and there’s been this activity, but it was all a spiritual imagination. That means the imagination of your spirit.

Episode 7 [Part 1] :: Question 8 on The Age of the World

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Question 8- Jonathan (United Kingdom): Thank you sir for this forum. Please sir, can you shed more light in accounting for the issue of the age of the world which scientists claim to be millions of years old. Does the bible support this view? Especially those of dinosaurs, prehistoric man, fossils and so on?

Answer 8: Yes, the bible does support the view that the world is probably millions of years old. It does, because we need to understand that the age of the world and the age of man in the earth are not the same. Man is about 6,000 years in the earth; actually, less. But, the world is much older than that. Now, you cannot tell the age of the world when you study the book of Genesis that tells us about creation. What we need to understand is that, in Genesis we are not given an account of the creation of the world but of the recreation of the world. So, the world was not created in the story that we have in Genesis but recreated in the story that we have in Genesis. When you study that whole chapter, you’ll get to understand it. There are just some key words that’ll help you understand. For example, in Genesis chapter 1, from verse 27 it says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.” You can only replenish something that’s been there before! So, it says [continuing in verse 28], “…replenish the earth and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” [Genesis 1:27-28] So, He told them to replenish the earth, and that’s very, very important.

And if you notice how these things came to be, if you’ll read from verse 1 chapter 1: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” [Genesis 1:1-2] God couldn’t have created an earth without form [and void]. That means it was formless and empty; God couldn’t have done that. I’ll show you a scripture now. And it says, [Continuing from verse 2] “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” [Genesis 1:2-3] And so on and so forth - "let there be, let there be, let there be," - and that ‘let’ is not a creation word. See, it’s more of a permission word. So, God says "let there be" and this leaps into being, because He was replenishing the earth in this area, and He called man to do the same. So, what you have - the account in Genesis chapter 1 - is the account of recreation.

Episode 7 [Part 1] :: Question 7 on Dealing with Homosexuality

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Question 7 – Mark (USA): Dear Pastor Chris, you spoke about homosexuality and how it is a sickness of the mind. Pastor, how can one get rid of it? Does the person have to go about seeking prayers or just control his body through God’s word? Also, how do we handle the homosexuals in the church and community? Is hatred towards them right or should we just pray for them?

Answer 7: Hatred towards anybody will never be right, no matter how bad such a person has been or no matter how sinful. Hatred is not acceptable from us toward anybody. Now, you said, “…how can one get rid of homosexuality? Does the person have to go about seeking prayers or just control his body through God’s word?” Now, it depends on the seriousness of the condition. There are three levels of homosexuality and, in fact, many other practices that people are involved in. The first one is:

1.)    The level of fascination: Now, at the level of fascination, you can, through your meditation on God’s word [you know], get rid of it yourself; you can! You meditate on God’s word and by changing your mind, you would [you can] effect changes in your way of life, and that’ll be the end of homosexuality; but you’ve got to make up your mind for that.

2.)    The second level is the level of habit: Now, at the level of habit, you are more or less under the control of your own mind, but a way of life that has now…because, in the beginning, we control [we create] our habits, but in the end, our habits produce a character for us. So, once it has come to the second level of a habit, you would need to break it through another habit; which means, you have to develop a new habit of consciousness of the word of God. That’s a little more difficult for younger Christians. But it is possible, and necessary, if you are already at the level of habit, which is the second level. It does mean that you would need to produce or create a new habit - the habit of not doing it - the habit of replacing your thoughts with certain thoughts of God and being in certain places instead of what would normally attract your attention or your interest to homosexuality. So, you develop a new kind of habit. Like I said, it requires a lot more discipline than the first level.

3.)    Now, the third level is where you would require someone to help you; your Pastor will be able to help you. Of course, any other more mature Christian can do that for you, but, always better when you talk with your Pastor. That third level is the demonic level. Now, the demonic level is where a demon has now taken advantage of what you were fascinated with that became a habit, and began to control your mind to this level where this demon, having observed you and observed your interest, has taken a hold of you in this area of your life. And so, [it] can make you subject to his dictates—anytime. You are now in bondage. See, it’s come to a demonic level; you are now in bondage to that devil. You have yielded to that devil and that devil must be cast out. It must be cast out of your mind, out of your system, before you will be free. Now, can you do that yourself? Oh, yes! It is possible also; but, it does require more knowledge of the word, more….a better understanding of the scriptures and definiteness of purpose. You make up your mind [that] this is what you want and you’re going to have to have it this way. And then, you ask that devil to go and you’ll have to trust, in faith, that that devil heard you. But if you go to someone who’s more mature than you, it’ll be far better because he’ll cast that devil out of you and you’ll keep the devil out. So, that’s why I said it depends on which of these levels the homosexual is: fascination level, habit level or the demonic level.

Now, you say, "how can one know?" Okay. How can you know what level you’re in? That’s why I said you better go to your Pastor and say, "look, this is what I’ve been doing" and, through the Spirit of God and by ministering to you, he can tell how far-gone you are. And, if you’ve been trying to get out of it yourself, you would know because of the difficulty you’ve experienced in trying to come out of it; you can tell at what level you might have found yourself.

Episode 7 [Part 1] :: Question 6 on the Ministry of the HolySpirit

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Question 6 – Jane (Kenya): What is the work of the Holy Spirit, and how do you know when the Holy Spirit has left you?

Answer 6: What is the work of the Holy Spirit? The work of the Holy Spirit is to carry out God’s will and purpose for your life and to help you understand the word of God, to help you see those things that the Spirit of God has brought into your life, to help you know God and to bring you the presence of God. And [then] to enable you with the power of the Spirit to do great things for God, to become a witness [an effective witness] for Jesus Christ. So, all of that is the work of the Holy Spirit.

Now, the second part of your question is, “…and how do you know when the Holy Spirit has left you?” The Holy Spirit will not leave you, except you leave God! You will have to go into apostasy for the Holy Spirit to leave you. That means you will have to completely reject Jesus Christ before the Holy Spirit could leave you. So, He will not leave you except you totally reject Jesus Christ; and, no Christian would reject Jesus Christ. As long as you’re a Christian, you have not rejected Jesus Christ; the Holy Spirit will not leave you. Now, St John’s gospel chapter 14, when you read from verse 16, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.” So, the Holy Spirit has come to abide with you forever! [Continues verse 17] “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” [John 14:16-17] So, He’s come to abide with you forever; the Holy Spirit will not leave you.

In St. Mathew’s gospel chapter 28 and when you read, in verse 20 He says, “…lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.” [Matthew 28:20] So, He’s with you by the Holy Spirit [through the Holy Spirit]. And then, also, in Ephesians chapter 1 from verse 13, He says, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” [Ephesians 1:13-14] So, the Holy Spirit is the earnest [the deposit] of the purchased possession. He is the earnest, the deposit, the down-payment; that’s what it means. So, since the Holy Spirit has been given as the down payment until the completeness (the completion, the final consummation) of the eternal salvation; when all that God planned in Christ is brought to pass, when everything is completed - that’s the end of the age - it says the Holy Spirit remains with us; so, the Holy Spirit will not leave you.

Episode 7 [Part 1] :: Question 5 on Sin Incurring God's Anger

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Question 5 – Elvis (Cameroon): Dear Pastor Chris, I followed one of your messages on LCN TV and there you said God is not angry with us when we sin, but I have been studying the Old Testament and in the book of Judges; I can’t count the number of times the bible says “And the anger of the Lord was hot against the people.” Is it something of the Old Testament only? Thanks, and God bless you.

Answer 5: Well, yeah, I said that God’s not angry with us when we sin. That’s true; He’s not, because there’s provision for your sin. In 1 John chapter 2 when you read from verse one, it says that “I write this to you that you sin not”. It says. “My little children, these things I write unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” [1 John 2:1-2] He is the propitiation; that means the appeasement for our sins. So, there is a provision for the appeasement of the Father’s heart when we sin. So, He’s not angry with us, but He does get angry with you - you incur His anger or His wrath - when you reject that provision. So, that’s where you get trouble, because there’s no sin that cannot be covered by the blood of Jesus - washed away, blotted out by the blood of Jesus. There’s no sin without remedy. That’s the point. See, every sin is washed by the blood of Jesus and if you reject what He has provided for the propitiation for your sins, then you incur the wrath of God, because you don’t have options. But when you sin, He doesn’t get angry with it or angry with you, because He knows you can get over it as a Christian—and you should!

Episode 7 [Part 1] :: Question 4 on the Death of Christians

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome
Question 4 – Eddy (Ghana): Dear Pastor, my question is a brief one. If Jesus died for us Christians, then why do Christians still die?

Answer 4: Okay. Firstly, the physical body has how much it can take on its own. And, there’s so much you’ve got to do for your body if you’re going to keep it alive for all time. You would have to do something to your body through the Spirit. So, it’ll depend on how much knowledge of God’s word you’ve got and how much influence [the impact] of the Spirit on your body that can keep your body vitalized continually. How you treat your body. Do you wear out your body? Remember, the bible tells us how that Jesus rested, that He rested in the boat. Why? Because He was tired! One other time, He rested at the well of Samaria. Why? Because He was tired! So, it’s possible to get tired and when you get tired, do you rest to recoup? So many Christians don’t do that and that means they will wear out their body before it should die if it were to die. So, it really depends on the individual; how much faith in God’s word and how you are able to take care of your body. Can you actually take care of this body with enough discipline to keep it alive? If you could, you could actually live forever! But there’s more.

Episode 7 [Part 1] :: Question 3 on Christians and Traditional Marriage

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Question 3 – Jane (United Kingdom): Hello Pastor, is it right for a born again Christian to have a traditional marriage?

Answer 3: Well, you know, they asked Jesus one time, “is it right to pay taxes [tributes] to Caeser?” Jesus answered, “…give that which is Caesar’s to Caesar and that which is God’s to God.” [Mathew 22: 17 – 21]. A traditional marriage is often called for by family members. And, they want to carry out that ceremony according to their traditional rites. Now, if the family that you’re marrying from [especially for the woman; it’s often from the family of the woman] requires it, you really have no options because those are their demands if you are taking their daughter in marriage; those are their demands. But, where both families are Christians, they ought to realize that they have a new tradition. And it’s the Christian tradition, which means, everything is based on the word of God - can’t be based on the tradition of some ethnicity or some nationality. It’s got to be the tradition of the word of God: “how do we do whatever we are going to do in Christ Jesus?” So, if both families are Christian families, they should realize that whatever tradition they are thinking about is Christian tradition and that means church - that’s what it means. So, if the families are going to get together outside the four walls of the church building, it’s still church, because everything they are going to do there is according to the word of God, according to the Spirit. It’s just like when Christians have a party; their parties must be in accordance with the word, in accordance with the Spirit. Often [no, always] it should be something that glorifies God - glorifies the name of Jesus.

Episode 7 [Part 1] :: Question 2 on Suicide

Question 2 – Alexander (Ireland): Hello Pastor Chris, I thank God for your ministry (Pastor Chris replies: “thank you”), it’s a blessing. My question is this: what does the bible say about suicide? Is suicide a sin? Thank you.

Answer 2: Yes it is. And, it’s important for me to explain some thoughts to you. What’s the cause of suicide? The main cause of it is selfishness, self-centeredness; that’s the cause - self-love. Someone is probably frustrated with the society or frustrated about something or is in self-defeat and he thinks, “Well, I’ll take my life.” No one takes his life [commits suicide] joyfully; no one says, “I’m so happy, I want to kill myself.” Often, it is because of some depression, of some feeling of rejection, something negative that you feel - that you think. And so, someone might decide to take his own life because of that; but, is it okay? No, it’s not okay! There’s a reason for that. I’ll read to you from Romans chapter 14, from verse 7, “For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. [Romans 14:7-8] Simple! So, you live, not for yourself, but for the Lord and if you decide to die, you can’t kill yourself because your life is not yours. The bible says, “we are bought with a price” [1 Corinthians 6:20]; we belong to Christ. He says, “None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself” - that’s the 7th verse. No man liveth to himself.

So, if you don’t live to yourself, there’ll be no reason to give up on life. So, you can’t be that self-centered. You’ve got to think about what the Lord thinks, what’s on His mind, what’s His purpose for your life; have you fulfilled your reason for living? Why are you alive in the first place? Why were you born? Have you found out your purpose for life? You cannot take your life until you’ve fulfilled that purpose. And when you fulfill that purpose, it’s up to the Lord to say, “This is how this man ends up”. So, taking your life means that you’ve chosen to live to yourself; you’ve decided how long you want to live and you’ve decided when you’re going to die and how you’re going to die. That means you’re dying to yourself, and this is all just wrong for a Christian. A Christian cannot take his own life, so suicide is a sin.

Episode 7 [Part 1] :: Question 1 on Walking in God's Perfect Will

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Introduction: Hello! I want to welcome you to today’s program. And, I am convinced that you will learn something today, and it will be a great blessing to you.

Question 1 – Toro (United Kingdom): Dear Pastor, it is really a great privilege to be able to interact and ask you questions directly. Please sir, I need to know how to work in God’s perfect will for my life.

Answer 1: The first thing you require is the knowledge of God’s Word. Without the knowledge of God’s Word, no one can really understand God’s perfect will. I’d like to read to you from verse 105, chapter 119 in the book of Psalms: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. [Psalm 119:105] See, God’s Word gives you direction. God’s Word helps you to understand God’s perfect will. That’s why you need to know the Word of God. His Word is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path.

And then also, Galatians chapter 5 from verse 16, “This I say then, walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. [Galatians 5:16] Walk in the Spirit….now, walking in the Spirit actually means walking in the light of God’s Word. And so, no matter what your senses tell you, you’ll be able to discern what is God’s perfect will. See, God’s will for your life, a lot of times, can be different from what other signs tell you - from what your feelings would tell you and what other human beings would tell you. So, you need to know God’s Word and that’s the only way you can judge what the Spirit of God is telling you, because the Spirit will always tell you what God’s Word says; the Spirit bears witness with the Word.

And lastly, praying in tongues will be of immense benefit to you. If you pray in tongues consistently and continually, your spirit will be attuned to the Spirit of God. Your spirit will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and it’ll be easier to learn God’s will for your life, God’s direction for your life and to hear, in your spirit, the voice of God. So, praying in tongues continually will help you learn this. So remember, one is walking in the light of God’s word; and the second thing is through the Holy Spirit.

See you again next week. God bless you.

Episode 6 :: Quick Vote Question on Losing One's Salvation

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome
Quick Vote Question of the Week: Now for the quick vote, we gave you several options [and]: one of them was on predestination; there’s [also] the use of the anointing oil, and should a Christian die?” Several questions [including] “can one lose his or her salvation?” And, most of you chose the question [you voted mostly for]: “Can one lose his or her salvation?” You want to know, so I’m going to talk about that now. Very simple answer: yes, it is possible to lose one’s salvation through willful rejection of the Word. Willful rejection of the Word of God and one can lose his salvation.

The bible says for us to stay in Word. You know, Jesus said, “abide in me.”[John 15:4] He told us to abide - to remain - in him, not only to believe but to abide. I want to read to you two major areas that will be helpful to you and the first one is from the book of Hebrews Chapter 6: “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come. If they shall fall away, to renew them again [ it says it is impossible, if they shall fall away, to renew them again] unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak” [Hebrews 6:4-9]. So there are things that accompany salvation, which means that after you have received salvation you are supposed to work according to the light of salvation [and] which is the Word of God. So, willful rejection of the word of God and all the various things that are outlined - the conditions here - must be fulfilled for someone to lose his salvation from what you read from verse 4 all the way to verse 6.

Secondly, there is an example of someone who got into that mess, and I will read to you from 2 Timothy chapter 4 from verse 9: Now Paul writes here to Timothy and says to him, “Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: For Demas hath forsaken me” [2 Timothy 4:9-10]. Now, Demas was someone who worked closely with Paul. He traveled with Paul. If you read in the book of Philemon and also in Colossians, you would notice the man was mentioned as a co-laborer with Paul. He was one of those who traveled around with him. But now, it says, verse 10: “For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed into Thessalonica:” He loved this world and departed from the ministry; He loved this world. It says, “....Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world,...” .He loved this world.

Now, what is the significance of that? 1st Epistle of St. John Chapter 2, from verse 15; it says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever” [1 John 2:15-17]. Did you notice that? It’s the one who does the will of God that abides forever. The one who loves this world cannot abide forever [“The world passeth away and the lust thereof”]. So, Demas had loved this world and this is what John said we must not do. He said, “Love not the world.” He says, “If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” And so, Demas loved this world and forsook the ministry and departed to Thessalonica. He loved this world, so the love of the Father did not abide in him and if that happens, can you conceive of someone who doesn’t have the love of the Father appearing in Heaven? It’s not possible. So, that’s the laws of salvation, and God put that there for us to know it’s possible especially with the other scriptures I read to you earlier.

Conclusion: I am so glad to be able to share the word of God with you. There are so many of your questions coming in, and even if I haven’t answered your question today, if you watch this again and again, the same Spirit that’s communicating with you now about other questions will bring you the thoughts as to what the real answers to your questions are, because that’s the way the Spirit of God ministers. He would take you through the scriptures, and you would learn even much more than we have discussed.
