Episode 2 :: Question 4 on Standard of Judgment before the Law

Question 4 - Rocky (Zimbabwe-Africa): During the period between Adam and Moses, there was no law and hence, no standard for sin or transgression. How then are men to be judged or what was the expected code of conduct when there was no measure? How will those people be judged at the end of time?

Answer 4: Well, Rocky, I got something to share with you here. We will go straight to the book of Romans and get our answers. Romans Chapter 2 [and I’m reading to you from verse 12]: “for as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law; and, as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified [now, notice what it says here in the 14th verse]. For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things those things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts in the meanwhile accusing or else excusing one another); In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.” [Romans 2:12-16] I hope you got that. In other words, those who sinned in the law shall be judged by the law and those who sinned outside the law shall be judged outside the law. It says they have a conscience, and their conscience accused or excused them, and so it says [that] when people do things that are consistent with the law, it shows that even the thoughts of the law were written in their hearts. So, they knew. And, that’s why there’s something called ‘the golden rule’ – “do to others what you want them to do to you”, meaning that, in our hearts, we know when we hurt others. We know when we hurt others, and, God uses that measure of the conscience to judge those who are without law. So, that’s what it’s just told us – how those without law will be judged. So, that’s the answer to your question.
