Episode 9 :: Question 1 - "Can Satan Read the Human Mind?"

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome |
Question 1 – Kingsley (The Netherlands): Is the devil able to read the human mind? Why couldn’t the devil read the mind of Jesus Christ to know that killing Him was to save us from our sins and that this was for the good of the Christian?
Answer 1: He says, “Is the devil able to read the human mind?” The answer is no; he cannot read the human mind anymore than any intelligent person can guess what’s in your mind by reading [or trying to understand] your mannerisms and your body movements and so on…body language. So, that’s the way the devil also reads you, because he’s been in this world for many years and he can understand human beings by observing them. That’s how far because Satan, remember, is a created being and because he is a created being, he doesn’t have the power. He’s not omniscient. Only God is omniscient; Satan is not. So, Satan doesn’t know everything, and Satan doesn’t know what’s in your mind. And, you know that Satan doesn’t know everything because of a lot of things that happened in the Bible that he didn’t know and have the sense enough to tell. For example, how come Satan didn’t know that Jesus had been taken to Egypt when He was a baby? [Matthew 2:13-18] God asked the parents, that’s Mary - the mother of Jesus - and Joseph, the supposed father, to take the little child to Egypt and Satan didn’t know they had gone to Egypt and went ahead and moved the king to kill all the children from 2 years and down; he didn’t know. There are lots of things that Satan doesn’t know. He didn’t know much in the bible days and still doesn’t know today, because he is not omniscient.
Now, another thing here, you said “Why couldn’t the devil read the mind of Jesus Christ to know that killing Him was to save us from our sins and that this was for the good of the Christian?” Now, remember that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ was a mystery; the redemptive work of Christ was a great mystery. Satan couldn’t have known it, because again, he is not omniscient. He doesn’t know everything. I want to read something for you from the Bible, 1st Corinthians chapter 2, talking about deep spiritual things - spiritual truths - like the sacrifice of Christ for us, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and all that that sacrifice brought to us, all of what his work on the cross and His resurrection has brought to us, talking about all of that. It says this [1 Corinthians 2:7-8], “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” It says they didn’t know it [none of the princes of this world], and the first person to be described as the prince of this world is Satan. In St. John 14:30, Jesus referred to Satan as ‘the prince of this world/the prince of this age’, so it says none of the princes of this world, which means beginning with Satan and rulers of the kingdoms of this world, whether they may be spiritual or human. So, that’s very important.
It says [quotes 1 Corinthians 2:8] they didn’t know it: “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God [1 Corinthians 2:9-11].” See, those things were hidden in the heart of God and only the Holy Spirit knew them, and the Bible says it is the Holy Spirit who searches the things of God and has revealed these things to us. Even things concerning you, Satan doesn’t know. Let me read that to you. It says: “For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him?” So, no one knows things concerning you except your own spirit. Satan doesn’t know what’s in your mind; only your spirit knows what’s in your mind and then, the Holy Spirit who searches all things. Satan is not the Spirit of God. Satan doesn’t know things about you except what an intelligent being can know about you (any intelligent being) human beings inclusive, what they can know about you based on observation is all that Satan can know about you. So, only your Spirit can know what’s in your mind, and then of course, the Spirit of God because the Bible says “the Spirit searches all things, and the deep things of God [1 Corinthians 2:10].” Alright!
